Women’s Development Unit (WDU)

Women’s Development Unit (WDU) is dedicated towards promoting the empowerment of women, young girls and children from marginalized families. It strives to provide means of earning sustainable livelihood and skill development trainings, while providing a safe space for their children’s quality education through our in house balwadis, crecheand study centre programmes. WDU also actively engages with the Young Women to provide a Safe Space for their personal, mental and social development, thereby facilitating them to be leaders of tomorrow.

Highlights of our Community Programme include:

Self-help Groups (SHGs)

 

    • Building SHGs to empower women from lower income families to become MSME entrepreneurs.
    • Train and monitor their progress until they can sustain themselves.
    • Spearhead inclusive growth by educating and creating awreness of funding channels, government schemes and programmes.
    • Provide a market place and platforms for these SHGs to sell their products
    • Other Programmes
    • Medical camps.
    • Women’s Advocacy Camps
    • Career fairs.
    • NGO Mela
    • Celebration of National Festivals, special events like International Women’s Day, Children’s Day, Teachers’ Day, etc
    • Observance of ’YWCA – Week without Violence‘ and campaigns to ‘End Violence against Women’ every year in October.

Balwadis / Creche

      • Gives children from marginalised community quality education
      • Builds command over languages-English, Hindi and Marathi. Develop strong mathematical foundation.
      • Encourage sports, arts and craft
      • Provides nutritious food and regular medical check-up of children.
      • Fun and fare events.
      • Around 200 children are enrolled in 4 Balwadis/creche across our centres.

Study Centres:

 

    • YWCA of Bombay provides a study centres in their branches across Mumbai.
    • Senior Students avail of these facilities for preparation of their school/college exams, entrancesor a routine reading ritual.
    • It hosts a library with books on diverge subjects.
    • Has spacious seating areas with easy accessible power plug switches for use of laptops.
    • Our study centres have provided safe haven for many students to crack prestigious entrance exams in the fields of medicine, engineering, law, CA, CS, humanities etc.
