2. Who We Are

The YWCA of Bombay is a registered non-profit organisation established in 1875, dedicated to the welfare, empowerment, and accommodation of women. We operate the following principal establishments in and around Mumbai:

  • YWCA International Centre, Madame Cama Road, Fort a guest house near the Gateway of India
  • Lady Willingdon Hostel, Colaba long-stay accommodation for working women
  • Achamma Bhavan Hostel, Byculla hostel for young working women and students

  • CBD Belapur Hostel, Navi Mumbai residential facility for women
  • Women’s Development Unit and welfare programmes including Ashray Nivara Kendra and Umeed Nivara Kendra

For the purpose of the DPDP Act, the YWCA of Bombay acts as the Data Fiduciary. For the purpose of the GDPR, we act as the Data Controller.

For donations:

  • Indian donors may be issued receipts eligible for tax deduction under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, subject to applicable conditions
  • Foreign donors’ contributions are received in accordance with the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010 and associated rules
  • PAN details, where required by law for donation receipts or FCRA reporting, are retained for the period mandated by law

10. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law. Broadly:

  • Guest registration records retained for a minimum of 8 years
  • Donation and financial records retained for 8 years after the relevant financial year
  • Hostel resident records retained for the duration of residency plus 3 years
  • Welfare programme records retained as per grant and statutory requirements
  • CCTV footage retained for 30 to 90 days unless required for investigation
  • Website analytics data retained for up to 26 months
  • Recruitment data retained for up to 1 year

Once the retention period expires, personal information is securely deleted or anonymised.
